Batik Workshops in conjunction with Ace festival 2012

Ace Festival 2012 will be held at the Goodman Arts Centre from 18th May to 10th June. We are happy to be a part of this programme by providing fringe workshops at our studio during the festival which makes for very good children activity during the school holidays.

No experience required. Just fun colouring on pre-waxed batik cloth for kids.

Batik Painting for the Young (5 years and above)
Price: $5 per batik piece.

Batik Induction Workshop for Youth (9 Years and above)
Learn to make your own Batik Painting using traditional tools such as ‘Tjanting’ for applying wax onto cloth. Price: $20 for 1 hour

Batik Painting Materials and Painting kits
Available for purchase during the festival.

Adult Batik Workshop
Every Wednesday nights: 7pm – 9.30pm.
$70 per month or $20 per session

We also provide Art Enrichment Programmes for schools, Customised Workshops, Team Building Sessions and Community batik at events.

New Batik Templates Introduced at Peranakan Museum’s Event

The new templates is a more compact A6 size for convenience and an engaging activity of batik colouring that is suitable for all ages. It comes with a frame sleeve which makes it a memorable souvenir of the event. We have several unique designs pre-waxed. We introduced it at the batik painting workshop at Singapore Peranakan Museum’s open house for their Sarong Kebaya Exhibition. The response was overwhelming.

Filming ‘Destinstion Art’ by Channel News Asia

Community batik featured in the upcoming documentary 'Destination Art' about a young urban artist Eman (Clog2) learning journey into batik. That's the producer Melissa Yuen smiling away! I have a feeling the outcome will be good judging by the way she manages her craft.

To be aired on 28th March 2012, 9:30pm, Channel News Asia (CNA). Destination Art is one in a series of documentaries about art making and artistic practices in Singapore. Featuring fresh and profound talents in various genre of art. The programme is Commissioned by National Arts Council and produced by CNA.

Kuala Lumpur International Batik (KLIB) Convention and Exhibition 2011

It was my third time attending the KLIB as a speaker and the only Singaporean member of The World Batik Council. It is a bi-annual convention held on 9-11 December at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It also coincides with their nationwide batik design competition – The Piala Sri Endon.

This time I shared my experience of our community batik project in Namibia and my views about how to promote batik by making it an accessible experience through community batik projects. My profile below and proceedings from my 2009 presentation titled: High and Low Batik Painting.

This is an extremely late post. I found this article and response for the Malay Newspaper exactly a year ago today. Its my response about the writers misconception about artistic development of the Malays in Singapore. I thought its necessary to post it here for posterity. Apologies no translation is available.

My response was to clarify the writer's misconception about the lack of support in the Singapore Malay community.
